Erin | Botanic Gardens

I've been wanting to get downtown to the D.C. Botanical Gardens for some time now, so I was so excited when Erin said she would be down for a shoot (also HELLO beautiful red hair with those gorgeous greens)! While the outdoor temperature in the city was hovering somewhere around 14 degrees, inside the giant greenhouse was a balmy 70+ degrees. Erin actually told me as we started shooting to let her know if her hair ever started to frizz! We had such a fabulous time making a day of it in the city with a couple of our other friends, and I am so happy with how this first shoot of the new year turned out :)

Best of 2016

Happy 2017! What a year 2016 was... I was lucky enough to travel to Europe for the first time, graduate from college, roadtrip across the US, and even start a website! To celebrate the end of the year, here's a look back at some of my favorite images from 2016. Cheers to the new year!

Window-Lit Portrait Session | Nicole

I absolutely loved spending this time with Nicole! She is moving all the way down to Florida tomorrow, and this was as much a catch-up date of our lives since we both graduated as it was a practice shoot for me! I wanted to test myself not only in indoor, window-lit portraits, but also to try to accomplish this in somewhat of a confined space. Since Nicole's apartment is currently filled floor to ceiling with moving boxes, I couldn't have asked for a better working location. We even had to move an entire desktop computer and speaker system in one room to be able to shoot!

I had so much fun with Nicole on this one (and wish her and her husband the very best in Pensacola!), I hope you enjoy! :)

Erynn | Stylized Dance Shoot

I have been hoping to get together and take pictures with Erynn for awhile now; she's so tall and flexible that I knew she'd be perfect for a dance shoot! We journeyed to one of my favorite shooting spots in Fredericksburg, a civil war site called Slaughter Pen Farm. Open fields, abandoned outbuildings, dirt road, so many options for a texture-loving photographer!

The sun was already close to setting by the time we arrived, but I ended up loving the little bit of grit and film-type quality the slightly under-exposed photos gained when I brought them back up in editing!

Jenni | Shenandoah National Park Portraits

Ask anyone I've worked with, fun and stylized portraits are my favorite to shoot. When my mom suggested a day trip to Shenandoah National park to hike our favorite family trail, I couldn't shake the idea of photographing a model at the top with those spectacular views as a backdrop.

As a photographer and an older sister, oftentimes my go-to/last-minute model is my younger sister, Jenni. She has long since accepted the arrangement, after realizing that in exchange for modeling, she inevitably ends up with some great new profile pictures. But when I first pitched this idea to her, I wasn't completely sure she was going to be so willing this time. Going hiking, changing into nice clothes at the top, doing a somewhat risky photoshoot, and then hiking back down admittedly doesn't sound incredibly appealing. But she surprised me, and accepted my offer/demand with almost no fuss. Ah, the influence of an older sister.

I was definitely pushed out of my comfort zone with this shooting environment, and there were mishaps along the way (like leaving my extra camera battery and only charger in a city 3 hours away...) but in the end, I'm so happy with how these photos turned out, and can't wait for more amazing sessions similar to this one. Enjoy!

Welcome! First Blog Post and The Buchholz Family

Welcome to KWH Photographs! I finally have a website up and running, and so hopefully this will allow easier viewing access of my photos to all.

Without wasting any time, let's get into my first blog post! After graduating from college in May, I have had the amazing fortune of living with my brother, Stacen, and sister-in-law, Nicole, in Philadelphia, and getting to nanny for my adorable baby nephew, Sebastian.

A couple of weeks ago, everyone's busy schedules finally aligned, and we were able to shoot a beautiful evening family session. It was an opportunity for the family to get all dressed up and venture out into the beautiful golden hour light of South Center Philly. Without further ado, the beautiful Buchholz Family!

We started out by heading to a place I'd been wanting to try out for awhile... the top of a cool parking garage right around the corner from where we live!

This next one was supposed to be a nice one of just Stacen and Nicole, but Sebastian couldn't help crawling over to be closer to Mom and Dad!

As the sun started to get lower, we then headed a few streets over to a location I had accidentally found while on a walk a few days before. It was just a little side street, but the way the evening light shone through the overhanging trees was breathtaking.

As we were finishing up the duo shots of Mom and Dad, Sebastian let the water bottle he was playing with get away from him, causing Stacen and Nicole to start laughing...

...and for Sebastian to take off crawling down the street after it, complete with blanket trailing from his mouth!

Thank you for reading this, my very first blog post on my new website! I hope you enjoyed, and look forward to you coming back for more!
